1001 Clears Committee
February 8th, 2010

Momentum is building for HB 1001.  On Friday, the bill passed out of the House Energy and Transportation committee on a 6-5 vote.  This morning, the Denver Post editorialized in favor of the effort.  The bill will see more action in the state House this week with a floor vote likely by the end of the week.

As it turns out, there’s a bit of irony in the timing of the bill moving this week.  The Colorado Mining Association (who testified against the bill) is holding their national western mining conference in Denver this week.  While legislators are moving Colorado forward as a leader in renewable energy, coal mining execs will be railing against the New Energy Economy and arguing we just need to chase down the elusive fix of “clean coal” to better protect our planet.  I’m not buying it…

Stay tuned for more action on HB 1001 and info on other key conservation priorities.
